This mini-blog is just to record short quotes of Yogananda and Kriyananda in a less formal manner than the
ananda.org web site or even the blog
A Place Called Ananda. For more in depth information click on one of these links I just mentioned.

Dec. 23. Give up the thought, “This is mine! all mine!” Tell God, with regard to everything in your life, “This is Thine! all Thine! Nothing is my own except it be under franchise from Thee.” The less you think of anything as yours, the freer you’ll be in yourself. And the more you think of everything as His, the more joy will infuse your heart, until you find that you have become pure Bliss.

Dec. 22. Never depend on your own powers alone. They are inevitably fragile, weak, and inconsistent. If, however, you trust in God, you will find that, by asking Him with faith, He will do everything you ask of Him, provided you ask with faith. Don’t plead with Him. Say to Him, rather, “This is what I am trying to accomplish for You. I need Your strength, and Your guidance. I’ll do what I can, but You must do the rest.” Don’t fear lest He think you presumptuous. He won’t, if you are humble, and if you want only to please Him. Many a job I’ve done successfully only after I’d said to God, “I can’t do this, but You can do anything! So come along: Help me!

Dec. 21. How modern do we owe it to our present age to be? I myself was born in the then-backward, nearly medieval land of Romania. Never have I made a strong effort to bring myself into the present age. Many scientific discoveries have swirled around me; new fads have sprung up; new slang; new ways of looking at things. I have chosen to remain untouched by any of it; to use it only as much as will help me (these pages, for instance, are being written on a computer); to pass serenely through the fairground of fresh excitements, but to let none of it reach me that might take me out of myself. I never watch television programs, unless for some very special purpose. I don’t care to be either modern or old-fashioned. Time passes, but divine truth remains forever changeless.

Dec. 20. Use discrimination in accepting modern gadgetry into your life. If you embrace clever inventions too enthusiastically, you’ll sacrifice your inner freedom and peace of mind. Too much “gadget-consciousness” can absorb energy unnecessarily, and for that reason is not an unqualified blessing. Granted, many such inventions are helpful, but if I myself want some piece of arcane information which might call for more research than I care to devote to getting it, I “farm” the job out to some friend who enjoys that kind of thing. In this way, I find I never need to explore the all-too-absorbing intricacies of “surfing” the internet. I prefer, in this case, to live in blissful ignorance. Granting the great benefits the internet offers, the trouble with it is that it can burden the mind with trivia.

Dec. 19. The Italians have a saying, “If it isn’t true, at least it’s well said (se non è vero, è ben trovato).” Don’t be lured too deeply by the attractive power of epigrams. Where truth is concerned, laugh if you like, but in the end, be serious.

Dec. 18. Imagine every difficulty, every desire, every attachment soaring up like a balloon, shrinking into the distance until it disappears altogether. Then return to your essential Self: enjoy being released from all obstacles into inner freedom.

Dec. 17. As you wash your body, so also, at the end of each day, cleanse your heart of every impurity of desire and attachment, and of every wrong thought you have held, or wrong words you have expressed, toward anyone.

Dec. 16. If someone ridicules you, laugh with him, if you can. Otherwise, if he is guilty of mere buffoonery, look away in calm silence. But if he mocks your principles, answer him as he deserves: “Mockery comes easily, to the ignorant.” Has someone slighted you? Thank him. Has anyone hurt your feelings? Thank him. Has someone tried to destroy your work, or your reputation? In all such opposition, give thanks. Certainly you should try at least to protect whatever worthwhile work you are doing; you may even have to fight for it. Your thanks, however, will be for the reminders your enemies give you that all is maya: delusion. True satisfaction will come to you only when you’ve escaped its clutches forever.
