Oct. 4. Non-attachment is true wealth. If one is attached, he is always afraid of loss. And if he fears the loss of anything, he has lost it, in a sense, already. Attachment is an attitude that many carry to the end of life. An old man, lying on his deathbed, cried out to his son, “Trim that lamp wick, son! The oil is being wasted.” His own life was already wasted away, and still he worried about saving money! A person who is non-attached wants nothing. And that nothing is all one needs to possess.
